Obedience VS Morality

To those who have not watched videos on the Milgram Experiment, you should really watch the 3 videos below. (This is a repeat experiment conducted in 2008/9, orginal was in 1960)

Basically, it was designed to understand why the nazi soldiers can kill so many without feelings. In modern context, it to let people know why in war-torn countries, people can kill each other, even family and friends, without feeling a thing. It's to let people think before criticizing, and it's to show that even though many of us say "I would never kill a person" and may be morally strong, this is really not the case when we are placed in such situations.

The statistics are actually really shocking.

Alternatively, watch the Derren Brown version of the experiment here:

Considering that it's so easy to convince someone to do something morally wrong in the name of science, I can understand how people placed in difficult situations can just throw morality away.
(Anyway, i watched the full episode, but can't find it online. The above in just the Milgram experiment portion.)

Watched another film.

For those who like Artsy kind of British Films, "An Education" was really really good.
It WILL BE officially released in cinemas on the 23rd of NEXT month.
But... you can watch advanced screenings for free.

Go to "http://www.seefilmfirst.com" and enter code "379389"
------------------------------
I am amazed that in aussie, advanced screenings are free, and you have to pay to watch it once it is officially released. Weird right?

3 Movies & the start of holidays...

Well, my mid-sem break has just started. Not happy with the assignments i submitted before the holidays (especially my stats test). Okie, enough about studies...

Watch 3 movies today. Did NOT spend a bomb. Why? I paid for the 1st movie and snuck into the next two :P
In total, i paid 10 bucks. (Suppose to be 6, but i chose UP to be the first movie, and had to pay $4 for the 3D glasses.)

"UP" was really really good. Absolutely adored the story line. Till this day, i genuinely feel that Pixar movies have the best storyline. I like how their film are always about the family. About UP, i really like the idea of childhood lovers staying together till old age, and how towards the end, he opens the adventure book and realises that the "experience" wasn't about physically going to the the falls, but about the experience they went through when spending time together. In my opinion, it was most touching.

Next, i watch "Beautiful Kate", which i didn't think was THAT good. Would have given it 3/5 at the most. Well, it was good considering that it was made by a 1st-time director and that it was adapted from a story that didn't have much film-worthy content. However, i wouldn't pay $6 for such a movie. A good effort though.

"(500) Days of Summer" was hilarious, and yet serious. A love story, and yet not. It's kind of difficult to explain, but it's good. This film is worth the money.

Note: my opinion of films and movies doesn't conform with the norm, therefore, use with discretion. hahaz...

But I wish you Jesus

I have formally dropped the subject today. No turning back now. Anyway, went to see the doctor today because i am "sick". Well, not true... hahaz... but i think it would be inappropriate for me to blog on the "issue". (Don't think dirty, cos it's not :P)

Just like to mention something here. Well, during my short period in S'pore, i heard a song that sounded very familiar, but have not heard in a really long time. And I think it came at a really right time. Here it goes...

I could wish you joy and peace
To last a whole life long,
I could wish you sunshine,
Or a cheerful little song,
Or wish you all the happiness
That this life could bring,
But I wish you Jesus,
But I wish you Jesus,
But I wish you Jesus,
More than anything.

I could wish you leaves of gold,
And may your path be smooth,
I could wish you treasures,
Or that all your dreams come true,
And I could wish you paradise
And ev’ry day be spring,
But I wish you Jesus,
But I wish you Jesus,
But I wish you Jesus,
Cause when I wish you Jesus
I’ve wished you ev’rything.
